Lingonberry
This apple variety was bred quite recently, in the 1970s. It is most popular in central Russia and, to a lesser extent, in the southern regions. Trees of this type of apple grow low, with a drooping, spreading crown. Brusnichnoe begins to bloom in mid-May.
Low trees produce small fruits, the weight of which does not exceed 120 g.
The apples are covered with a thin, waxy skin, a greenish-cherry color. The taste is juicy, sweet and sour. However, this variety should be consumed as soon as possible, as the fruit has a shelf life of less than 40 days. The downsides include a prolonged ripening period and vulnerability to pests. The upside is that Brusnichnoe produces high yields on a very compact tree.
Grushovka early
The early pear tree is a tall tree with a large, spreading crown. During flowering, the tree is covered with pale pink, neat, saucer-shaped buds. The fruits are small (90–100 g), but have a nice color: pale crimson stripes form on the lemon-colored skin.
The Grushovka apple variety has a sweet, slightly tart flavor. Furthermore, it boasts a wonderful aroma and is rich in vitamins B and C. Its advantage is its high frost resistance, making it suitable for planting in the coldest regions of the country. However, Grushovka is very susceptible to scab.
Pearl
If you're unsure which apple tree variety to plant to ensure you'll have large, appetizing apples in the future, we recommend choosing the Zhemchuzhny variety. This variety's trees are small and begin bearing fruit in the second to third week of August. Ripe fruit lasts for about a month.
The obvious advantages of this variety are its drought tolerance, relative frost resistance, and beautiful golden-yellow fruit color. Its disadvantage is its average resistance to scab.
July Chernenko
A common variety in the Volga region and central Russia, Iyulskogo trees can reach a height of 5 meters and produce medium-sized fruits (approximately 150 g). The fruits are light green with irregular bright red stripes.
The fruit's flesh is crisp, aromatic, and sweet. The variety's drawbacks include its extreme vulnerability to numerous pests and fungi, a very short shelf life (no more than 10 days), and inconsistent yields. The variety's advantages include its wonderful apple aroma and wine-sweet flavor.
Candy
Konfetnoye is one of gardeners' most beloved summer apple varieties. Trees grow tall and begin bearing fruit as early as four to five years old, although yields are average. Nevertheless, Konfetnoye's fruits are rosy, aromatic, and very sweet. The advantages of this variety include its good cold tolerance and resistance to scab. However, the poor transportability of the fruit and the difficulty of crown formation make it difficult to cultivate commercially.
Red previously
Krasnoe is a summer variety whose main advantage is its early ripening. Typically, the fruit is ready to eat by the end of July. Furthermore, as a result of recent modifications, Krasnoe has become a common columnar apple variety in the Moscow region.
The trees are short, with a small crown. The Red fruit is small (weighing no more than 100 g), but has a very attractive appearance – pink skin with white spots. The flesh has excellent flavor. Compared to other summer varieties, this variety does not begin bearing fruit as quickly (5-6 years after planting), but the trees tolerate winter well and produce a bountiful harvest.
Mantet
The Mantet was developed by Canadian breeders at the beginning of the last century. This summer apple variety is suitable for cultivation in central Russia. These apple trees have gained great popularity due to their wonderful flavor and early ripening. The trees are medium-sized, have strong branches, and during flowering, are covered with large pink buds. The apples are medium-sized (150–180 g), yellow-orange, and rosy on the sides.
The fruits are sweet, juicy, and aromatic. The Mantet variety's downsides include its vulnerability to extreme cold, its long ripening period, and its susceptibility to pest infestations.
To prevent pests from ruining the harvest, gardeners are advised to plant wild chamomile or celandine around the tree in the spring.
Lungwort
Medunitsa is a summer apple variety popular in many regions of Russia. Developed in the 1950s, Medunitsa gained popularity for its scab resistance, high yield, and excellent fruit flavor. Medunitsa should not be confused with Medok, a columnar summer apple variety. These trees produce small, crimson-colored fruits whose flavor is recognized by consumers. The apple flesh has a sweet, distinctive flavor and a pleasant aroma. Due to its frost resistance and undemanding nature, Medunitsa has become a successful apple variety for the Urals, where the mountain climate is characterized by uneven precipitation and temperatures.
Dream
Mechta is a popular summer variety for garden plots in the Moscow region and central Russia. This variety's popularity stems from its frost tolerance and relatively high pest resistance. Mechta apple trees are medium-sized and have a broad crown. They produce high yields of beautiful, round, yellow-pink apples.
The tree's fruits can weigh between 100 and 200 grams. The apple flesh is soft and juicy, with a pleasant sweet flavor with a subtle tartness. The advantages of this variety include the fruit's appearance and taste, as well as its very early onset of fruiting (from two years). However, there are also significant disadvantages: its demanding moisture and soil conditions, and its short shelf life.
Orlovim
The Orlovim apple tree's golden, crimson-tinged fruits are a beautiful addition to any summer orchard. The apples grow on medium-height trees with a rounded crown.
The fruit's weight is average, around 150g. However, its size is offset by its flavor—its unique aroma, slightly sour taste, and juicy, dense flesh make the Orlovim variety an indispensable dessert.
Thanks to its advantages, this apple variety has gained popularity throughout Russia, from the Volgograd region to Sakhalin. These include fruiting in 3-4 years, high yields, and resistance to scab. Among its disadvantages, gardeners point out the apples' poor transportability and short shelf life.
Stark Erliest
Among the best new summer apple varieties, the Stark Early stands out. This variety was recently bred in the United States and has gained popularity in Russia for its resistance to pests and some types of fungus. Trees of this variety are medium-sized with a dense, conical crown. During ripening, the number of fruits and foliage can overwhelm the branches, so timely pruning is necessary. However, with proper care, the apples will grow to a small size but with excellent flavor and aroma. The skin of the fruit is scarlet, with numerous subcutaneous spots. Among the disadvantages of this variety, gardeners usually point out an inconsistent yield, the need for crown shaping, and susceptibility to scab.
