The main types and construction of elite English greenhouses

When growing crops in a garden, sooner or later, a greenhouse will be necessary. Seeking not only to protect the plants but also to preserve the garden's aesthetic appeal, farmers choose beautiful models, among which the English-style greenhouse stands out.

Main types

Premium glass garden

Attractive greenhouses shaped like small houses are typical examples of the English style. Thanks to the variety of designs and the aristocratic flair inherent in each model, these structures are renowned for their decorative appeal. They can be a standalone feature of a property or serve as an extension of the main living space. Regardless of the sophistication of the design, English greenhouses are divided into the following categories:

  • Classic. Traditional structures with a wooden or aluminum frame and single-layer glazing;
  • Elite. They differ little in appearance from classic models, but are made from more durable and expensive materials.

Advantages and disadvantages

Premium glazed gardens are guaranteed to be built in compliance with all necessary technologies, demonstrating the high quality and functionality of such greenhouses. They have a number of advantages that distinguish them from other types of structures:

  • weather resistance, regardless of the season;
  • a wide range of purposes, which is manifested in the possibility of using the “house” as a greenhouse, and as an experimental space for growing exotic plants, and as a warehouse;
  • long service life, up to 30 years;
  • the ability to grow tall crops;
  • aesthetics and lack of uniformity in design.

Despite the high quality of the materials used and the pleasing visual effect, elite greenhouses have several disadvantages:

  • the large mass of the entire structure requires a solid foundation;
  • the need to install impact-resistant glass, since the first hail storm can damage the trim;
  • high cost of both finished products and materials if you plan to build a winter garden yourself.

Design Features

When building an English-style greenhouse, first of all, you should pay attention to its main components, which together represent an example of a unique style.

As with any serious structure, the foundation is the foundation for stability and durability. A high-end greenhouse typically has a gable roof with an angle of no more than 45°. Glass is traditionally used for the exterior covering. It's important that it be free of defects and bubbles, as these can harm the plants.

Aluminum or wood are used to create the frame. The "skeleton" of luxury models is additionally strong, as its components are made of a special, expensive alloy.

Like any greenhouse, a glasshouse requires the installation of certain equipment for heating, ventilation, drainage, and shading. A rainwater collection system may also be useful.

How to make it yourself

Purchasing luxury products requires significant financial investment. With some time and some construction skills, building an English greenhouse yourself can save a significant amount of resources. Furthermore, such a structure will have its own unique character and personality, blending harmoniously into any garden. Construction involves the following steps:

  1. Selecting a location for the foundation.
  2. Laying the foundation itself. It's important that it be either brick or concrete. Wood won't support the weight of the entire structure.
  3. Erecting the frame. If its components are made of wood, high-strength muntin bars will be required. Wood also requires cleaning and treatment at least every six months. Aluminum is lighter and less susceptible to environmental damage. This type of frame requires plastic spacers on the muntin bars.
  4. Formation of a drainage system.
  5. Glazing. If tempered glass with impact-resistant properties is unavailable, window glass will do. The main thing is that it is free of defects.
  6. Installation of systems to create a microclimate.

After the basic greenhouse installation, you can begin finishing the interior. Depending on the size of the structure and the strength of the supports, crops can be grown on different tiers, which not only saves space but also looks beautiful.
