History of origin
What is the Prizvanie cherry variety? Are there any secrets to increasing its fruit production? We'll discuss all of this a little later.
Let's begin with the history of this variety. Where did this fruit and berry crop originate? The birthplace of the Prizvanie cherry variety is the Ukrainian Research Institute in Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia Oblast). Under the guidance of Nikolai Ivanovich Turovtsev, winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, a new cherry variety was bred through selective breeding, which was named Prizvanie.
Modern gardeners also use another name for this fruit tree: Rosinka. What varieties are the "parents" of this fruit tree? A scientific experiment was conducted crossing the Melitopolskaya Dessertnaya and Samsonovka varieties. The Prizvanie (Rosinka) cherry variety has received recognition from both experienced and novice gardeners for its high survival rate in various weather and climate conditions, as well as for its good fruiting.
Description and characteristics
The key feature of this fruit and berry crop is its frost resistance. A scientific research experiment found that the tree can withstand temperatures as low as -25°C! According to the variety description, the Rosinka cherry tree is a low-growing (dwarf) variety.
The maximum height of a mature tree does not exceed 2.5 m. It has a dense, rounded crown. The plant prefers full sun but also thrives in shaded areas of the garden. Flowering occurs in the last month of spring. Therefore, this variety begins to bear fruit around mid-June. Fruit ripening is average. Vocation is a self-sterile cherry variety that requires cross-pollinators.
To get a good harvest from this tree, you should ensure that your garden plot is planted with cherries and other varieties of cherries.
The first harvest can be collected as early as 2-3 years after planting. A mature tree can yield 25-30 kg of fruit. Rosinka cherries are dark red and flattened and rounded. Each berry averages 5.5 g. The flesh is a rich red color. The pit is oval and easily detached from the flesh. This variety is characterized by a sweet, slightly tart flavor.
Features of cultivation
Want a beautiful cherry orchard? Organize proper care for your plants. The Prizvanie variety is unique in that it doesn't require any special care or maintenance.
The main stages of caring for a fruit tree are as follows:
- Despite the fact that Rosinka grows and bears fruit well in any soil, when planting it is better to give preference to black soil or sandy soil;
- When choosing a place to plant a seedling, take a closer look at the southwestern and southeastern parts of the garden;
- To ensure oxygen has access to the root system, regularly loosen the soil and remove weeds around the tree;
- Cherry trees need to be watered according to weather conditions, and it is also essential to water the plant after flowering;
- don't forget to apply fertilizer; the Prizvanie cherry variety responds well to both mineral and organic fertilizers;
- To ensure that the plant produces a good harvest, it is necessary to thin out the branches annually.
- To shape the cherry tree's crown, seasonal pruning is recommended every three years. This procedure improves fruiting and, consequently, increases the harvest.
