Purpose and instructions for use of the fungicide "Topaz" for grapes
Content
Description and mechanism of action
Topaz is a fungicide that effectively combats fungal spores that threaten your garden or vineyard. It's also highly effective against rust and powdery mildew. It destroys existing spores and "protects" the plant from infection for a short time.
The fungicide poses no danger to humans, so it can be used not only in cases where a fungal infection has already occurred, but also as a preventative measure. It is used to treat stone and pome fruits, including grapes.
How does this product work? The main active ingredient responsible for such a rapid effect is penconazole. Its concentration is 100 g/L. Topaz inhibits fungal reproduction, preventing the germination of its spores. Because this effect is achieved even at a relatively low concentration of penconazole (as in this product), the product is absorbed by the plant almost immediately. This, in turn, allows treatment to be carried out in rainy or cold weather (at temperatures down to -10°C).
Instructions for use
When using the fungicide "Topaz", it is very important to follow its instructions for use to prevent the disease from becoming fatal to the grapes.
The concentration of the product depends on the specific plants you want to treat. While grapes require no more than 2 ml of the product diluted in 10 liters of water, for less delicate roses, the dose can be increased to 5 ml.
It's best to choose a dry, windless day. Although, as we've already mentioned, Topaz will be effective even in rainy weather, it's best to wait until the weather improves (if the plant's condition allows). The substance is absorbed fairly quickly, with a waiting period of 2-3 hours after application. The treatment should be repeated twice: the second time to consolidate the effect and completely eliminate the fungus. Typically, a repeat treatment is performed after two weeks.
Precautionary measures
This is a very important point; ignoring it could negatively impact your health. Regardless, Topaz is a chemical, so you must take appropriate protection:
- To prepare a solution of the required concentration, use a container in which food products will not be stored later.
- Wear protective gear: gloves, boots, and a protective suit. Even inhaling the vapors from the solution can be extremely harmful to your health, so be sure to wear a respirator.
- Keep an eye on your pets – don’t let them near the container with the fungicide, and it’s better to lock them in another room while all the preparations are underway.
- If this substance comes into contact with your skin, wash it off immediately with soap. It is also recommended to rinse your mouth thoroughly.
- If you forgot to wear a respirator and inhaled fungicide fumes, take a few tablets of activated charcoal and wash them down with two glasses of water.
- If for any reason a small amount of the product is ingested, call an ambulance immediately, as gastric lavage is necessary. While you can try to do this yourself, it's still best to consult a specialist.
- If the product gets into your eyes, rinse them immediately with water.
- Keep food away from the area where you prepare the solution.
- Either burn the ampoules you used to fill them with fungicide or bury them so that no one will find them.
- The medication should be stored in a dark place away from food and other medications. Temperatures should range from -10°C to +35°C.
Pros and cons
If we talk about the advantages and disadvantages of this product, we can see that there are many more advantages:
- Topaz has a very broad spectrum of action and successfully copes with the most common fungal diseases;
- In addition to the grapes that interest us, the fungicide can also be used to treat other crops;
- due to the fact that the substance is quickly absorbed by the plant, even rain a few hours after treatment will not nullify all previous efforts;
- the drug is used extremely economically, and its shelf life is quite long;
- the substance is absolutely safe for plants, meaning that after treatment you can eat the fruits without worrying about your health;
- It has excellent compatibility with other preparations, so you can easily use it in the comprehensive treatment of your vineyard.
The only downside is the serious precautions that prevent any direct contact with the substance.
When handling, you will have to be extremely careful so as not to harm yourself or others.
