Description of the plant and its distribution area

This perennial plant is a woody vine with a light citrus aroma. The main stem can reach over 10 meters in length. Young plants have yellow-brown shoots, light in color, with a wrinkled texture. Over time, the bark becomes coarser and darker in color. The vines are flexible and densely foliated. The leaf blades are ovoid, bright green, with prominent veins. The berries are round, bright scarlet, and grow in small clusters.

Of the more than twenty species of Schisandra, only two are considered medicinal. While the plant grows naturally in the Far East, it is also cultivated in Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krais, Amur Oblast, Kamchatka, and Sakhalin.

Rules for the collection and procurement of raw materials

Only ripe berries harvested in the first half of autumn possess beneficial properties. To avoid damaging the thin skin, the bunches are carefully picked along with the stems. The best way to preserve the medicinal properties of lemongrass is to preserve it for the winter. The drying process consists of several stages:

  1. The collected brushes are laid out on a clean, dry surface and taken outside under a canopy.
  2. After 3-5 days, the fruits are carefully removed from the branches and then dried for about 7 hours in the oven at a temperature not exceeding 50 °C.
  3. The procedure is repeated several more times over the course of 2-3 days.
If the attic is used for drying, it must be well ventilated.
