Description of the variety
The Budenovka tomato is a determinate variety with a mid-season ripening period. It was developed by the State Institute of Agricultural Vegetable Crops. The institute's goal was to create a tomato variety suitable for industrial planting in dense plots, with a high yield and resistance to adverse environmental factors. The result is this variety, which fully meets the breeders' objectives.
The description of tomatoes of this variety surpasses the characteristics of previously bred hybrids in many respects. Thanks to its numerous advantages, Velmozha can be grown in a variety of climates. It can be planted in various greenhouses and hotbeds, as well as in the open ground.
The plant forms bushes that can reach a height of 1.5-2 meters, and if left unchecked, even 3-4 meters. This allows the bush to form strong stems. When grown outdoors, bushes rarely exceed 1.8 meters.
From planting to full maturity, the harvest takes approximately 110-120 days (three months). The vine produces fairly large tomatoes, averaging approximately 250 grams. Some tomatoes weigh 500-700 grams.
Velmozha produces tomatoes with a distinctive shape and color. They resemble a truncated cone with a slightly ribbed surface. Ripe tomatoes have a rich crimson color. This description makes them similar to the "Bull's Heart" tomato variety.

Advantages and disadvantages
The Velmozha tomato variety boasts numerous advantages over other tomato varieties. These characteristics have made it highly popular among gardeners in our country.
The strongest points of these tomatoes include the following:
- Easy care. Growing it is a simple process that even a novice gardener can handle;
- the presence of increased plant resistance to a wide variety of diseases affecting tomatoes;
- the ability to grow plants in open ground even under unfavorable conditions;
- when ripening, the fruits do not crack;
- Tomatoes have excellent taste characteristics. The pulp is aromatic, tasty, and sweet;
- the fruits are ideal for processing into juice, baking, and making ketchup;
- Tomatoes have a strong skin, allowing the harvest to be stored for a fairly long period of time. In addition to excellent shelf life, this variety tolerates transportation well;
- High yields if care instructions are followed. If all agricultural techniques are followed, the yield per square meter will be 30 kg or even higher.
Despite such excellent characteristics, Budenovka also has its drawbacks, which include the following features of this culture:
- sowing of planting material is carried out later than small-fruited varieties;
- During the fruiting period, the plantings require protection from strong gusts of wind. Despite the thick stems, the plants need to be tied up;
- unsuitability of tomatoes for whole-fruit canning.
In addition to the disadvantages listed above, Velmozha has two major drawbacks that impact its yield: the need for regular watering and fertilizing. It also requires regular removal of side shoots and pinching of flower stalks. No more than four flower stalks should remain on any one branch.

Features of cultivation
As noted above, Budenovka can be grown in greenhouses and in open ground. Which growing method you choose depends on your preferences and the availability of a greenhouse on your property.
In order to obtain an excellent harvest of this crop, it is necessary to know the following features of its cultivation:
- Three plants should be planted per square meter of soil;
- To increase the rate of seedling survival and growth in the hole before planting young plants, you need to add fertilizer;
- Pinching (removing excess shoots from the bush) is essential. Otherwise, the tomatoes will be less tasty and nutritious. Pinching is done when the bushes reach a height of 1.5 meters.
- It is also recommended to train the lower clusters of the bush to increase fruit weight. To achieve this, at least four flowers should remain on each shoot.
Because the bushes can grow quite tall, they need to be supported as they grow. Otherwise, the stems, under their own weight and the weight of the developing fruits, will fall to the ground. This will lead to tomato rot and a decrease in the quality of the harvest.
In addition to the above steps, when growing this crop, like all tomatoes, it requires abundant and timely watering, as well as regular loosening and weeding. Weeding and pest control are also important in caring for this plant.
Pest and disease control
The Velmozha variety is renowned for its resistance to various diseases, including its high resistance to late blight. However, despite the bushes' excellent immunity, when grown in greenhouses, they can be affected by brown spot. To cure affected plants, it is necessary to eliminate excess moisture and maintain proper lighting. Alternatively, folk remedies (such as garlic infusion) can be used to treat the disease.
When growing tomatoes outdoors, the plants can be attacked by spider mites. They are very difficult to get rid of. To combat this pest, use a soapy solution. Thoroughly wipe all affected areas on the stems and leaves with the solution.
