Tomato Tretyakovsky: varietal characteristics and agricultural practices
Content
Characteristics and description
This variety is quite popular among gardeners and all types of homesteaders. It's loved by both novice and experienced gardeners. These tomatoes are often found on farms. Being a hybrid, they grow very strong and large. The only drawback of the Tretyakovsky tomato, like other hybrids, is that the seeds saved from the fruits are unsuitable for sowing the following year. This is because they will lose all their properties, and instead of a beautiful, fleshy tomato, you'll end up with a wrinkled, unidentifiable vegetable.
This is a mid-early hybrid, as it takes an average of 3.5 months from planting the seedlings to the first tomatoes ripening. The plant is determinate.
It's best grown in a greenhouse, but in southern regions it can easily grow outdoors. Its height is 130-160 cm, and in the south it can reach as high as 190 cm. This variety is resistant to most fungi and harmful insects.
Ripe tomatoes are scarlet or crimson and round. The average fruit weighs 100-150 grams. They have four chambers, with a dry matter content of approximately 5%. The harvest has a long shelf life and transports well, making it a favorite among both novice and seasoned gardeners.

Country of origin and year of registration
This tomato was developed by scientists in the Russian Federation in 1999 and received state registration as a variety for greenhouses and outdoor cultivation the following year. And for over 15 years, it has been in great demand!
In which regions is it best to grow?
Tretyakovsky produces its heaviest yields in southern regions. If you plan to grow this variety in mid- and northern latitudes, it will require shelter. This won't affect the yield.
Directions for use
The tomatoes themselves are small and very attractive, so they'll look great canned. They're also very tasty, meaning they can be eaten raw. Juice from this hybrid tomato is not only delicious but also very healthy, as it's rich in vitamins and minerals.
Yield of the variety
To give you an idea of the full yield of this variety, we can tell you that one square meter can yield 15-20 kilograms of fruit.
Advantages and disadvantages
This variety has more than enough advantages, namely:
- Strong immunity.
- Huge yield.
- This variety easily tolerates temperature fluctuations and lack of moisture.
- Tomatoes themselves are quite fleshy and heavy. They have a medicinal effect, as they contain carotene, lycopene, and selenium.
- Tomatoes have a wonderful taste.
Cons:
- It's quite difficult to get seeds.
- The branches need separate supports, which will be quite difficult for novice gardeners to do.
- During growth, the plant needs special attention.
Cultivation and characteristics of the variety
All these characteristics are due to the fact that this variety is a tall hybrid. This means the stem can grow as much as it wants. Without care, it can reach a height of 7 meters. We don't want this kind of growth, so pinch the stem above two clusters.
An inflorescence forms every three leaves. The shoot closest to the inflorescence becomes the extension of the main axis. The shoots that form below the first cluster will become the second stem.
Remember to remove any remaining side shoots. Vegetable growers who grow Tretyakovsky tomatoes outside of black soil strongly recommend pinching the tomato after the third inflorescence.
The Tretyakovsky tomato is shade-tolerant and produces good fruit even in the worst weather. Keep in mind that the first 2.5 weeks of seedling growth are difficult, as this is when their roots are developing. So, don't worry about overwatering and don't overwater.
Fertilize your tomato plant only once, until the first leaf appears. Concern should be raised if, on the contrary, the above-ground portion of the seedling increases. This is a sign that the seedling is too hot. Experience shows that this is not a good thing, as the tomato will suffer from illness for a long time after transplanting.
After 1.5 months from germination, the tomato plant will require further attention, as it will now be 15 cm tall and have 5-7 leaves. Therefore, be sure they don't overgrow. Regulate their growth and root size with lighting, maintaining the right temperature, and maintaining a proper watering schedule (not too frequently, but at least once every 4-5 days). Many say this tomato looks less like an edible tomato plant and more like an ornamental tomato. However, this variety is also disease-resistant and productive. The tomato itself is tall, requiring support. Branches can break due to the fruit, so support is essential. Tomatoes are often trained into 2-3 stems. Pay special attention to fertilizer, as it should contain potassium and phosphorus.
Thanks to its unique characteristics, the Tretyakovsky tomato hybrid is almost immune to fungal diseases. To ensure its continued health, it requires regular watering and even light, occasional fertilizing, and ventilation. Tretyakovsky is resistant to fusarium, cladospira, and tobacco mosaic virus.
Diseases and pests
A common pest is the Colorado potato beetle. It's most common in the south of the country. Prestige is used against it, as it's much easier than hunting for each individual beetle. In temperate climates, the plant can be attacked by cabbage whites, codling moths, and sawflies; use Lepidolite against them.
