Features of the variety

When planning to grow tomatoes on your plot, the first step is to choose the right variety. Each variety requires specific cultivation techniques to ensure a high-quality harvest, as well as its own distinct flavor characteristics. The Spasskaya Bashnya variety is an excellent choice, offering not only easy care but also high yields.Spasskaya Tower tomato variety

This variety has gained immense popularity among gardeners due to its following characteristics:

  • mid-early fruit ripening period;
  • super-abundant harvest;
  • the variety is suitable for any climatic growing conditions;
  • easy care, as the plant produces a small number of side shoots;
  • the bushes are able to withstand significant temperature changes;
  • there is no strong dependence of plants on the level of illumination;
  • Tomato plants have good resistance to many diseases. Spasskaya Bashnya is particularly resistant to root-knot nematodes, TMV, fusarium wilt, and cladosporiosis.
  • can be grown in open beds, as well as in greenhouses;
  • very tasty fruits that have sweetish flesh.

Spasskaya Tower is a determinate, tall plant, with bushes that can reach almost 150 cm in height. Therefore, to ensure good fruiting, the shoots must be supported. Staking is recommended to prevent the stems from breaking under the abundance of fruit.

A single cluster can produce up to six tomatoes. The stems are strong, and the clusters formed on them "stand up like a wall." The bushes stop growing once the required number of clusters has formed. Typically, there are six. Each fruit weighs an average of 200-500 grams.

This video will tell you about the characteristics of the Spasskaya Tower tomato.

The advantage of tomato

Every gardener, when growing crops, strives for easy care and a bountiful harvest. However, this isn't always the case, as many have to work hard to achieve delicious fruits. Still, among every vegetable crop, there are varieties that can rightfully be called "dream varieties." Among tomato varieties, this characteristic applies to indeterminate and semi-determinate varieties. These qualities are also characteristic of the Spasskaya Tower.Indeterminate tomatoes in open ground

It's worth noting that this variety is a hybrid. When developing it, breeders managed to simplify care for the bushes as much as possible and make them very productive. As a result, with little time and effort, and a small planting area, even a novice gardener will reap a bountiful harvest.

Another advantage of Spasskaya Bashnya is its ability to be grown in a variety of climates. The bushes can be planted both in open ground and in a greenhouse. This is all possible thanks to the plants' compact size and ideal height for harvesting tomatoes.

A significant advantage of this hybrid is its lack of need for abundant watering. Given its small size and tall growth, the bushes require little water.

The main advantages of the Spasskaya Tower include the following:

  • the bushes occupy a relatively small area of land;
  • abundant fruiting that begins early;
  • The fruiting period lasts up to six months. If the bushes were planted in a greenhouse and grown under the right conditions, fruiting will continue throughout the year;
  • The plants, thanks to the structure of the bushes, receive uniform light. Furthermore, the shoots are positioned in such a way that the fruits are well ventilated;
  • excellent plant immunity to a wide variety of diseases.

It's worth noting that tomato bushes of this variety can also be used as unique garden decorations. For example, they can be used to create arches.Ripe tomatoes lying in a bowl

As we can see, the Spasskaya Tower has quite a number of advantages. This explains its popularity among vegetable growers and tomato lovers.

Soil preparation

There are as many tomato growing recipes as there are gardeners. However, it's worth noting that tall varieties like Spasskaya Bashnya require a slightly different approach to cultivation than their shorter counterparts. Particular attention should be paid to site selection in this case. Furthermore, proper preparation of the site for planting the seedlings will play a significant role in fruiting.

It's best to select a plot for growing tomatoes in the fall, after the harvest and any remaining vegetation have been cleared from the field. However, don't be discouraged if, for some reason, you missed the fall preparations. You can remedy the situation in the spring. However, in this case, preparation should begin at least a month before the expected planting of the seedlings.

Spasskaya Tower, like many tall varieties, prefers well-fertilized soil. Therefore, when preparing the soil, it's essential to add compost, peat, and humus.Peat is a soil fertilizer

In the fall, experts recommend applying phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. After adding fertilizer to the soil, the area should be dug over to ensure the fertilizer penetrates thoroughly. In the spring, nitrogen-containing fertilizers should be used. Therefore, preparing the tomato plot should be split into two parts:

  • autumn – choosing a location, adding organic fertilizers and digging;
  • spring – application of nitrogen fertilizers.

By dividing your site preparation into two stages, you can achieve a significantly higher quality and more abundant harvest.

Clay soils deserve special mention. If you have clay soil in your garden, when growing Spasskaya Tower, you should amend the soil with manure mixed with river sand. This will make the soil looser.

Some experienced gardeners use a special method of fertilizing the soil: planting green manure. For tall plants, use mustard or rye. After these crops emerge and grow a little, they are dug over. As a result, the young plants become excellent, and most importantly, healthy fertilizer for tomatoes.A cut tomato with seeds

Once all stages of preparing the site for growing tomatoes have been completed, you can begin sowing seeds for seedlings.

Planting seeds

Like other tomato varieties, Spasskaya Tower is grown from seedlings. Therefore, the health and vigor of your seedlings will determine your future harvest. This stage of seedling germination requires special attention.

Experts recommend starting seeds approximately 2-2.5 months before planting in a greenhouse or open ground. Therefore, seedlings are often grown from early March until early the following month, April. The mature seedlings are planted in the ground around May or June. This way, the first harvest can be harvested as early as July. This hybrid typically continues to bear fruit until August.Planting tomato seedlings

Before planting, the seed material must be prepared. To do this, use the following procedure:

  • First, the seeds are soaked in a specially prepared solution. This is prepared by dissolving one teaspoon of liquid fertilizer (Agricola-Vegeta, Effecton, or Nitrophoska) in one liter of water. A less expensive option is to use wood ash instead of fertilizer.
  • Next, the seeds are placed in bags made of natural fabric. Regular gauze can be used. They are then kept in a solution at 25 degrees Celsius for 24 hours.
  • Then the seeds are placed in the refrigerator for two days. Before placing them on a shelf, the swollen seeds in the gauze should be wrapped in cellophane.

After these steps, the seeds will harden. Therefore, this procedure is essential when planting seedlings in open ground.

When preparing the seeds, you need to prepare the soil mixture yourself. To do this, use equal parts humus, soil, and peat. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, and add one teaspoon of urea, superphosphate, and potassium sulfate to the resulting mixture. Then, heat the resulting soil mixture at 100-115 degrees Celsius (for example, in an oven) for 20 minutes.

Next, pour the prepared soil onto a baking sheet. The soil layer should be approximately 5 cm thick. Before planting, transfer the soil to the trays and water thoroughly.

Plant seeds in furrows 1 cm deep. The distance between adjacent rows should be at least 5 cm. Maintain a distance of approximately 2 cm between seedlings. Cover them with soil. No need to water the planted seeds.

The container with the future seedlings should be placed on a sunny windowsill. The room temperature should be 20-25 degrees Celsius.

Planting in soil and care

After 2-2.5 months, the strengthened seedlings should be transplanted to their permanent growing location. Before planting, spray the young plants with copper oxychloride (30 grams per 10 liters of water).Spraying young plants with copper oxychloride

The seedlings should be placed in holes (15 x 15 cm, one spade deep). Fertilizer should be placed at the bottom of the holes. It's best to stagger the holes.

How to fertilize

It is recommended to feed Spasskaya Tower three times per season:

  • the first time - 2 weeks after planting the seedlings (1 kg of bird droppings per 10 liters of water);
  • the second time - when the second brush has blossomed. Here, manure or bird droppings are used;
  • The third time – during the first harvest. The fertilizer composition is similar to the second feeding.Manure for soil fertilization

Spasskaya Bashnya is a high-yielding tomato variety. However, to achieve good fruit production, the bushes require minimal care.
