Salad tomato "Batyanya": characteristics and description of the variety

The "Batyanya" tomato has gained popularity thanks to its many advantages, including its undemanding climate and high-quality fruit. A few plants of this variety can provide a family with tomatoes all summer long, and dishes made from them until the next harvest.

Description of the variety

Siberian breeders developed the "Batyanya" tomato variety, and its characteristics and descriptions have attracted the interest of many gardeners. Since then, reviews from gardeners who grow it have increasingly increased its popularity. This indeterminate variety ripens early but produces fruit over a long period. The first harvest can be harvested 100 days after germination. They are planted outdoors when the soil warms to 15–17°C (59–62°F), by which time the seedlings should be two months old.Tomato variety "Batyanya"

Depending on the region and climate, seeds are sown during March; they show good germination. Unless the seed packaging specifically states that they do not require treatment, soak them in a potassium permanganate solution before sowing. After 2-4 true leaves appear, transplant the seedlings into separate containers. If necessary, extend the time before planting them in their permanent location by replanting them. To ensure a strong root system develops, plant the seedlings deep down to the cotyledons when transplanting.

The soil should be nutritious, light, and well-drained. Seedlings are grown indoors or in a greenhouse and planted in the garden in late spring or early summer. Before planting, acclimate the young plants to outdoor conditions for a week or more by opening the greenhouse or taking the containers outside, gradually extending the time spent outdoors. "Batyanya" tomatoes are best planted after cucumbers, cabbage, carrots, onions, or legumes; lupine makes an excellent green manure. Leave 60-80 cm between plants, and prepare strong, stable trellises or stakes in advance to which the stems will be tied as they grow. Most often, the bushes are trained into single or double stems, as this produces the largest harvest.Tying tomatoes to a trellis

The "Batyanya" tomato requires traditional care: watering, weeding, hilling, feeding, and constant attention to shaping the bush. Water with settled, warm water as the soil dries, and feed with mineral and organic fertilizers. When planting, incorporate superphosphate and potassium sulfate, wood ash, and compost into the soil. In summer, you can feed with a mullein infusion solution with added nitrophoska.

The stems grow to a length of over 2 m, and this growth continues throughout the growing season, so you will have to constantly pinch out and tie up the side shoots.

Description of fruits

Our "Batyanya" tomato variety is considered very productive, with a single bush capable of yielding over 6 kg of large, delicious fruits. This variety averages 250–350 g in weight, and even half-kilogram fruits can be grown in a greenhouse. The color is pinkish-crimson, the skin is firm and glossy, and the shape is a large heart with a prominent tip. The fruits are juicy, with sugary flesh and a small number of seeds, and they have a pleasant, slightly sweet flavor.Tomatoes "Batyanya" in section

The fruits are versatile; from the moment they begin to bear fruit, they're in demand in salads, soups, and sandwiches. They make excellent lecho, purees, sauces, and juices. However, they're not suitable for canning whole due to their large size.

Tomatoes store well and are easy to transport, making them suitable for commercial cultivation. It's best to pick tomatoes as they ripen; overripe tomatoes can crack, making them unsuitable for storage and losing their marketable appearance. Sometimes, some fruits on the bush become deformed; it's best to pick them unripe to preserve the plant's energy for subsequent fruit production.Ripe tomatoes of the Batyanya variety

Harvesting of this early variety begins three months after germination. If the weather is favorable for early ripening, the tomatoes ripen in the sun, producing a particularly sweet and flavorful harvest. If ripened in a shaded area, the ripening process is delayed, and the flavor is less pronounced.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Numerous reviews from gardeners characterize this variety as recommended for growing in all regions of the country. It is characterized by cold resistance and rapid growth, so it is successfully grown in Siberia and the Far East. It has a very good yield – at least 17 kg can be harvested from one square meter, if planted sparsely.

The fruits are not only distinguished by their impressive appearance, they are also very tasty, healthy, store well, are easy to transport, and are used to prepare appetizers, first and second courses.

The "Batyanya" tomato variety (the variety description specifically emphasizes this) is resistant to diseases and pests. Thanks to its rapid growth and early ripening, it's resistant even to late blight. Pests rarely attack this variety, except when planted too close together. However, if you plant 3-4 plants per square meter, prune excess shoots promptly, and maintain adequate air and light, you can avoid pests or diseases throughout the season.Fruits of the Batyanya tomato

The typical drawback of this domestic variety is the very long shoots, or more precisely, the constant need to manage the rapidly growing branches. But this is typical care for indeterminate tomato varieties—they always require attention, requiring constant shaping, removing unwanted branches, tying, and supporting the fast-growing stems. Pinching and tying are common chores for any gardener who wants to feed their family organic, healthy, and delicious tomatoes from their own plot. And the early-ripening "Batyanya" variety from Siberian breeders offers this opportunity not only to residents of southern regions but even to those with much shorter summers.
