The unpretentious black currant variety Green Haze

Characteristics
The Green Smoke variety is a mid-season currant. The bushes grow small and not too spreading. The shoots are straight and richly green, while the buds are brown (slightly deflected from the shoots). The leaf blades are five-lobed.
As for the plant's flowers, they aren't particularly large, rather medium-sized. The goblet-shaped flowers and round berries—all these characteristics suggest that this is a fruit-bearing blackcurrant bush.
Regarding culinary qualities, currant berries have a sweet and sour flavor. They are also widely used in cooking. They are eaten raw, but also used to make various desserts, drinks, and confectionery. Other key characteristics of this variety of fruit bush include good adaptability to low temperatures and resistance to certain pests, such as powdery mildew. Furthermore, the bush ripens in the first half of summer.
Ripening time
Green-fruited currants are a fairly nutritious variety of berry. Planting them in your garden is worthwhile if you're looking to try new varieties. However, to ensure the results meet your expectations, it's important to understand the basic growing practices. For example, it's recommended to check the plant's ripening time before purchasing seedlings at the market or in a specialty store.
As a rule, the currant variety begins to bloom in May, and produces its fruits around the end of June - beginning of July. In summer, the bush is simply covered with berries. Fortunately, its dense, rich green foliage provides some shade for the fruit clusters, preventing them from "baking" in the sun, especially on dry summer days with extremely high daytime temperatures. However, planting the seedlings somewhere in the shade of the garden is not the best option. In this case, the berries will develop significantly more slowly and with significantly less success.
Another important recommendation that will stimulate the growth and development of this black currant: try to plant the seedlings of this variety near fences or other hedges rather than in open areas. This way, the bushes will be protected from strong winds on at least one side.
Productivity
This blackcurrant variety has already earned widespread recognition among Russian farmers. You're unlikely to see any results in the first year after planting: currants don't produce fruit immediately after planting. But after overwintering, they will fully establish roots, strengthen, and prepare for their first fruiting season. When the fruits finally form and ripen on the branches, you'll be able to truly appreciate their flavor and aroma.
Interestingly, these berries contain approximately 12% sugar and 190 mg of ascorbic acid.
Taking a closer look at the yield of green blackcurrants, we see that they are quite high. A single bush can yield up to 5 kg of delicious and incredibly nutritious berries, with each berry weighing approximately 2.5 g.
Advantages and disadvantages
The blackcurrant variety presented here is considered quite popular among Ukrainian and Russian gardeners. It produces a good harvest, the berries ripen quickly, and the bushes require little maintenance. It's also noteworthy that the plant exhibits high resistance to various fungal diseases. As for its drawbacks, the only possible drawback is its low resistance to bud mites. Otherwise, this blackcurrant variety offers impressive characteristics.
It's worth purchasing a few seedlings for your garden. Provide them with proper care, and you'll soon achieve more than satisfactory results. What's more, they don't require much effort. The main thing is to follow our recommendations.
