Currant "Ordinary Miracle" - a modern winter-hardy Siberian variety
Content
Description of the variety
The description of this variety characterizes it as a dessert crop with a mid-season ripening period. The currant bushes grow quite tall and spreading. The fruit clusters are medium-sized, each containing up to 10 berries. Remarkably, this variety has almost no small berries—all are large and medium-sized. When ripe, the berries turn black, and the skin becomes shiny and firm. The fruits have excellent flavor—they are aromatic, sweet and sour.
Given that this variety was bred in Novosibirsk, it boasts high winter hardiness and maintains its yield even after surviving harsh Siberian winters. Furthermore, plants of this variety have a high resistance to diseases and pests, which also has a beneficial effect on yield.
Productivity in different climatic conditions
Given that the Obyknovennoye Chudo (Ordinary Miracle) currant variety originated in Siberia, it possesses all the necessary qualities for successful cultivation in the challenging northern climate. Naturally, this variety thrives in the central part of Russia, where summers are long and warm and temperatures are not extremely low (despite the fact that this currant can withstand truly impressive frosts—down to -39°C!). The average yield of each Obyknovennoye Chudo (Ordinary Miracle) bush is approximately 10 kg per season, with slight variations depending on the growing region.
Currant care rules
The common miracle prefers loose soil: loam, sandy, or black soil. However, thanks to its powerful root system, it thrives in absolutely any soil—the roots extend deep, drawing nutrients from the deeper layers. The bushes prefer well-lit areas with ample sunlight.
Like any currant variety, the Ordinary Miracle appreciates attention and care: try to regularly loosen the soil around the bushes, remove weeds promptly, fertilize regularly, and carry out formative pruning. Don't forget to treat the bushes with pest control products – although the crop is considered resistant, it's better to be on the safe side and completely minimize the risk of uninvited guests.
Another important point is the obligatory rejuvenation of the bushes: in the spring, you need to trim off all old, damaged or dried shoots, leaving only the most viable shoots.
Try growing a few bushes of this "miraculous" currant in your garden, and you're sure to become a devoted fan. With just a little effort, you'll reap a bountiful harvest of delicious, aromatic, and, most importantly, highly nutritious berries that will provide your family with true Siberian health all year round.
