Hom: instructions for use of a preventative and therapeutic fungicide

With the arrival of spring, blooming gardens and greenery delight the eye, and the anticipation of a delicious harvest makes one count down the days until the first fruits appear. Problems with diseases can be eliminated with the help of chemicals. The instructions for the product "Hom" will tell you how to prevent and combat plant diseases.

Pharmacological properties of the fungicide "Hom"

Those who have a garden or work with plants know firsthand the healing properties of "Homa." It is widely used to prevent and treat fungal infections.

The drug "Hom" protects plants from pests

In this video, an expert will explain which preparations can protect plants from diseases.

Prescription of the drug

The drug "Hom" can be used not only for treating fruit trees in the garden, but also for ornamental plants grown indoors and outdoors. "Hom" is suitable for spraying vegetables and root crops. This treatment is especially important for sensitive crops such as grapes and peaches.

According to the instructions for use of "Khoma" and user reviews, it is used for the prevention and control of leaf curl, anthracnose, mildew, scab, downy mildew, late blight, brown spot, and rot.

Composition and mechanism of action

The drug's name is an abbreviation of its main active ingredient, copper oxychloride. The green wettable powder is a crystalline hydrate—the active ingredient is bound to four water molecules. Therefore, the drug is effective in treating diseases but is less dangerous to warm-blooded animals than other copper-containing medications.

When copper oxychloride molecules penetrate microorganisms, they have a destructive effect on the mineralization of organic matter. As a result, cell death is inevitable. Importantly, microorganisms do not develop immunity and do not become accustomed to the product.

Crystalline copper chloride salt is not soluble in water or other organic liquids and is unaffected by high temperatures and sunlight. It is easily washed away by rain and neutralized by alkalis.

Contraindications for use

The fungicide formula is effective only under specific application conditions. Therefore, "Hom" should not be used during the active growing season or at temperatures above 30°C. Do not use the product after its expiration date.

Advantages and disadvantages of fungicide

Copper oxychloride has its pros and cons that must be taken into account.

Advantages:
  • suitable for combating a large number of diseases of fruit, berry, vegetable and ornamental crops;
  • can be used for therapeutic and preventive purposes;
  • characterized by a high degree of “tolerance” to other substances;
  • convenient and easy to use;
  • low cost and easy to purchase.
Flaws:
  • easily neutralized by precipitation and extensive watering;
  • does not penetrate plant tissue, therefore it is practically powerless in cases of deep fungal infection;
  • uneconomical: a large amount of solution is required for complete treatment;
  • may cause metal corrosion.

How to use

The effectiveness of the product depends entirely on strict adherence to the instructions for use. Dosage and application procedures vary depending on the application (gardening, vegetable gardening, ornamental plants).

Preparation of working solution

It is recommended to prepare the solution immediately before use. Avoid using metal containers, as the solution may cause corrosion. The solution is fairly easy to prepare: select and measure the required dose of "Homa" (refer to the table in the instructions) and dilute it with a small amount of water. Then add the remaining volume of the required liquid to the resulting solution, stirring constantly.

To make the drug stick and last longer, you can add a small amount of milk (approximately 1% of the total solution).

Processing times

Crops should be sprayed during the growing season. The only exception is ornamental crops, which can only be treated before or after the active growing season.

Before spraying, check the weather forecast (no precipitation). A clear, wind-free day with a temperature of around 20–23°C is ideal.

The prepared solution cannot be stored – it is only suitable for a very limited period of time.

Rules for processing various crops

  1. This product protects vegetable crops and root crops from downy mildew, anthracnose, bacterial wilt, late blight, macrosporiosis, cercospora leaf spot, and brown spot. A solution is prepared at a rate of 40 g per 10 liters of water. The action time is 2–5 days for cucumbers and tomatoes and 20–28 days for other crops.
  2. Fruit and berry crops – against scab, moniliosis, clusterosporium, mildew, anthracnose, and leaf curl. For treatment, dilute 40 g of "Homa" in 10 liters of water. The action time is from 20 days to a month. The solution consumption depends on the specific crop.
  3. Flowers – against rust and spotting: 30–40 g per 10 l of water.

Compatibility with other drugs

According to the instructions for "Hom," insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers can be used simultaneously with it. The optimal combination is organic pesticides. Leaf burn is unlikely with this combination, and the effectiveness is longer. It is not recommended to combine them with alkalis and lime.

Safety precautions when working with chemical fertilizers

Although "Hom" is not as dangerous as other pesticides, it is still worth following these rules when using it:

  • use personal protective equipment and special clothing;
  • Do not use near water bodies or apiaries;
  • Do not drink, eat or smoke while working with the drug;
  • do not prepare or store the drug in kitchen utensils;
  • isolate pets during treatment;
  • If the solution gets on exposed parts of the body or in the eyes, rinse them with running water for at least 10 minutes, and if it gets into the body through the mouth, drink a large amount of water or a glass of milk.

Storage rules

Store the medication in a dark, dry place, out of reach of children and animals, and away from sources of ignition. Do not store "Hom" near medications, food, or animal feed. The expiration date is indicated on the packaging (at temperatures from -5 to +30°C).

Prevention is always better than cure. Therefore, we recommend using the fungicide "Hom" for preventative measures and rest assured about the future harvest.
