Benefits of cucumbers
Regularly eating cucumbers improves kidney and liver function, enhances memory, and lowers cholesterol. If choosing between store-bought and home-grown vegetables, the latter are naturally healthier. When buying vegetables from the store, you can't be sure that pesticides or chemical fertilizers weren't used to ensure a bountiful harvest, and therefore, you can't be sure of the health benefits of store-bought vegetables.
It's a different story when vegetables are grown in your own garden. When growing vegetables for themselves, gardeners rarely use chemicals, opting instead for folk remedies. There are many folk remedies, both used and long forgotten, but no less effective, that help combat many diseases and positively impact the quality and quantity of the harvest.
One method involves spraying the crop with a mixture of milk and iodine. This mixture effectively protects against harmful diseases that affect cucumber growth and, consequently, the quality of the harvest. This mixture is easy to prepare, quite affordable, and poses no harm to humans or the crop itself.
Benefits of iodine
Everyone remembers from childhood that iodine is a good and effective antiseptic, so if a gardener has a bottle of this medicinal ingredient, it would be a sin not to take advantage of its properties.
Iodine contains a significant amount of copper, which means it is an excellent plant aid.
Watering cucumbers with iodine helps combat problems such as gray mold and late blight. Iodine also significantly rejuvenates the plant and helps prevent premature yellowing of the leaves.
Iodine is enriched with microelements, making it suitable for use as a fertilizer to boost plant vitality. Using iodine helps increase crop productivity.

Treatment with milk and iodine
Iodine, an antiseptic, combined with fermented milk products, effectively combats all sorts of garden pests. Lactose creates a thin film on cucumber leaves, making it virtually impossible for pathogens to penetrate.
This type of fertilizer is beneficial for plants growing in poor soil that contains virtually no micronutrients. This type of spraying does not harm the plant and provides excellent protection against many diseases.
To spray, you'll need about thirty drops of iodine, dilute it, and stir it thoroughly in one liter of milk. For a better effect, you can add a few grams of finely grated laundry soap to this solution.
This type of watering can be repeated throughout the crop's growth period, at intervals of seven to ten days. The first treatment can be carried out as early as three to four days after planting. In this case, watering should be done at least 24 hours later.
The only drawback of this cucumber treatment method is that it may not be effective against an already established disease. For example, if powdery mildew has attacked cucumbers, more aggressive treatments are recommended. Therefore, it's crucial to take preventative measures before the disease has even begun.
Nevertheless, trying to save the harvest with this harmless remedy is not only possible, but also necessary. To do this, add ten to twelve drops of iodine to nine to ten liters of milk. This remedy can help combat downy mildew.
A definite advantage of this mixture, in addition to its eco-friendliness and ease of use, is that the fruit can be eaten without even washing, without fear of ingesting harmful substances. Using this fertilizer will allow the harvest to ripen significantly earlier, without the need for harmful and expensive chemicals and pesticides.
Proper watering, feeding, and fertilizing will definitely impact yield. It's much easier to prevent any disease and protect yourself from its negative consequences. The lactose found in milk will help prevent pests and also act as a good plant food. Therefore, this inexpensive yet highly effective remedy will be an excellent aid in preventing the unwanted consequences of disease and in harvesting a good, abundant, and healthy harvest.
