Rust on cucumbers

This is a sure sign that the crop has been attacked by a fungal infection. If left untreated, the disease can seriously worsen the plant's health and significantly reduce the yield. As soon as the disease is identified, treatment should begin immediately. Preventative measures should also be taken to prevent recurrence.

Black rot

At the onset of the disease, cucumber leaves become covered with small, reddish spots, and the edges of the affected leaflets become slightly disfigured. The damage gradually spreads toward the center of the leaf, leading to its drying and eventual death. Over time, blisters may appear on the damaged leaves. If left untreated, black rot will continue to develop, spreading along the cucumber stem, and the affected areas will begin to ooze a sticky fluid. Fungicides are used to effectively combat black rot.

Anthracnose

The disease is caused by a pathogenic fungal infection that thrives in high temperatures and humidity. The first symptom is rusty, round spots on the leaves. Uncontrolled progression of the disease leads to the appearance of holes in the affected leaves, giving the plant a scorched appearance. At the same time, spots will appear on the fruit, oozing a pinkish fluid from the lesions. The main cause of the disease is water splashes settling on the plant's leaves.

Fighting the disease is not easy: in the early stages it can be defeated by using a fungicide – benomyl or chlorothalonil.

Angular spotting

You can tell your cucumbers are suffering from angular spot if oily, wet, green spots appear on the plants, eventually turning rusty. The center of the lesion gradually ruptures, forming holes in the foliage and releasing bacterial fluid. The same fate befalls the fruit of affected plants: distinctive spots and whitish ulcers appear on them.

The disease thrives especially well in warm, humid conditions. If you notice the characteristic spots on your plants, immediately begin spraying the beds with a copper sulfate solution.

Prevention of cucumber diseases
