What work is recommended to be done in August?
August is a month of intense care for garden crops. During this time, it's recommended not only to harvest ripened crops but also to prepare plant material for new fruiting by propagating and replanting young plants.
In the last month of summer, the main focus is harvesting, preparing it for storage and processing, processing it in the form of canning and pickling, and preparing raw materials for future planting.
Next, gardeners are advised to tend to their plants and garden. During the hot last month, increased watering is recommended. August is also a favorable time for transplanting and propagation.By this time, the soil is already warm enough, and in many regions of Russia, the approach of cold autumn winds begins to be felt as early as August, bringing the surface temperature to a comfortable level for plants to establish themselves in their new location. - From August 12 to 14, it is better to postpone planting vegetables and replace this activity with harvesting and processing root crops, nightshades, and fruits;
- You can start planting from August 15th, and you can plant anything you want - from herbs to fruit trees;
- It's recommended to spend the days from the 18th to the 21st tending to your garden, but try to avoid using chemicals on your plants. It's best to focus on hilling up your beds and weeding the soil.
- August 21, 22 and 23 are days of diligent planting of trees and shrubs;
- From the 23rd to the 26th, gardeners should postpone planting materials and harvesting equipment, as these days are considered barren. The 23rd to the 26th are best for spraying plants, cultivating the soil, or landscaping.
What to do on the waning moon
According to the lunar calendar for August, the waning moon is an ideal time for the following activities:
- From the 1st to the 3rd, plants are intensively tended: watered, weeded, and other necessary maintenance activities are carried out. This is a very favorable time for working with mushroom mycelium;
- From August 4th to 6th, gardeners begin preparing planting material for the coming season. To do this, crops are propagated and transplanted into fresh soil. Vegetables can also be prepared for the winter;
- On the 7th and 8th, you can work with berries - strawberries, wild strawberries and others, namely: planting, replanting, removing excess shoots around the bushes;
- From the afternoon of August 8th to the 10th, you should plant rowan, viburnum, sea buckthorn, and linden trees. After this, you can begin fertilizing the plants with organic fertilizers.
Work during the full moon and new moon
The new moon and full moon are unfavorable days for any gardening work related to plant growth. During the new moon, it is recommended to limit tree pruning, crown shaping, or treating trees for pests and fungi. Gardening is also undesirable during the full moon.
