Lunar calendar: growing seedlings on favorable days in 2025

When to sow
To grow strong, healthy plants capable of producing a bountiful harvest, it's important to choose the optimal time for sowing. Each phase of the lunar cycle corresponds to specific tasks. During one lunar month, the moon goes through four phases:
- new moon;
- first quarter;
- full moon;
- last quarter.
The first phase lasts one day. During this time, no activities are recommended except collecting seeds. One day before and one day after the new moon, you can weed and prune dead shoots.
The second phase lasts 11–12 days, when the moon is actively waxing. The first quarter is favorable for loosening the soil, pruning, grafting, and planting seedlings and seeds. During the waxing moon, it is recommended to plant trailing and tall-growing crops.
The full moon lasts three days. Weeding, weeding, and pest control will be effective. Avoid pruning or grafting mature plants, as this will not produce the desired results.
The last quarter lasts 14–15 days, during which the moon wanes. The fourth phase is an excellent time for watering, fertilizing, and pruning. Plants' root systems are vulnerable, so working with them is not recommended. The waning moon is a good time to plant root vegetables.

Favorable days
Each lunar month consists of favorable and unfavorable days. To get a good harvest, it's important to choose the right dates for sowing seeds. Optimal planting days are calculated not only by the phases of the moon. The moon's progression through the zodiac signs also plays an important role in compiling the lunar calendar. The most favorable signs are Taurus, Libra, and Scorpio.
January is the month when gardeners and vegetable growers prepare for the upcoming harvest. Tomatoes, peppers, onions, eggplants, and greens are planted as seedlings. Flowering plants include begonias, petunias, and lobelias. The following dates are favorable for sowing: 1st, 10th, 15th, 16th, 19th, 20th, and 29th.
February is the best time to sow seeds for seedlings. Gardeners and summer residents use cups or boxes for this purpose. Favorable days: 1st, 6th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 13th, and 17th. Peppers, tomatoes, onions, eggplants, celery, and greens are all good for planting. Petunias, begonias, chrysanthemums, carnations, and primroses are also ready for sowing.
March is a busy month for planting. Favorable days: 7th, 14th, 16th, 19th, and 21st. The first ten days are suitable for planting tomatoes, eggplants, and greens. Cabbage, celery, and lettuce are planted in the second ten days. The third ten days will give zucchini, cucumbers, spinach, and carrots a good start. Primrose, fuchsia, and snapdragon are recommended for sowing. March is the month when young plants are transplanted into individual containers and pricked out.
Planting in a greenhouse
Growing seedlings saves time and effort. A greenhouse creates comfortable growing conditions for plants. Young shoots become less dependent on weather and temperature. Both healthy seedlings and weak, fragile shoots are planted in a greenhouse.
Planting can begin in April. Favorable days in April 2020: 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 11th. Recommended dates for planting tomatoes and sweet peppers.
May is a good month to plant eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, and greens in greenhouses. Favorable dates are: 7th, 8th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 18th, and 28th. Weather-resistant crops such as carrots, radishes, and onions are also sown in May.
The influence of the lunar phases on plants also persists when planting in greenhouses. The first quarter is best for plants with active above-ground growth, while the fourth quarter is best for root crops. Optimal periods are when the moon transits the following zodiac signs: Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces. Planting seedlings is not recommended when the moon is in Aries, Leo, or Aquarius.
Plants planted according to the phases of the moon and favorable dates are less susceptible to disease and produce a greater harvest.
However, don't rely solely on the lunar calendar. Don't forget about the quality of the seeds and the planting technique.
