Description and planting features of the Nevo melon
Content
Description and main characteristics
This Israeli variety is the earliest ripening of all pineapple-type melons, ripening as early as 50 days after sowing. Ripe melons are typically oval in shape, weighing between 1.5 kg and 3 kg each. The skin is golden, dark yellow, and may be covered with a dense netting. The flesh is white and creamy.
A characteristic feature of this hybrid is the high uniformity of the crop. Israeli melons boast excellent commercial qualities, an attractive appearance, and superb flavor. Mature plants are resistant to powdery mildew and fusarium wilt, and also successfully resist pathogens. The planting density of this crop per hectare is approximately 10,000 plants, yielding up to 50 tons of fruit per hectare.
Features of agricultural technology
All seeds from Israeli suppliers reach the Russian market treated with a special fungicide, Thiram, which significantly simplifies plant care. Furthermore, these seeds do not require soaking before sowing, unlike other types of seed. The seeds are planted in the soil only after the soil has warmed up thoroughly—to approximately 12 to 15 degrees Celsius. The planting depth is 10 cm. For additional protection, melon seeds can be treated with a solution of potassium permanganate, followed by rinsing in clean water.
If you choose the seedling method of growing, then transfer the seedlings to a permanent location only when the slightest threat of night frost has passed.
It's important to consider the condition of the seedlings themselves—they should have developed at least three true leaves by the time of planting. The planting pattern for the hybrid is 140 x 100 cm. The Nevo melon variety is also suitable for growing indoors—in a protected greenhouse or under regular agrofibre. Sometimes resourceful gardeners cultivate this variety by cleft grafting onto pumpkin. Incidentally, this procedure gives the plants additional cold resistance.
