Planting garlic according to the lunar calendar for 2025

General principles of using the calendar
It has long been known that the motion of celestial bodies influences physical processes on our planet—from human physiology to energy processes. Therefore, it would be wrong to ignore the influence of Earth's satellite on plant growth.
The Moon goes through four phases of solar illumination: new moon, waxing moon, full moon, and waning moon. These phases depend not only on the Moon's solar illumination but also on its location. Thus, as the Moon orbits the Earth and faces the Sun differently, it influences points on our planet differently.
This influence is determined by the level of gravity, which varies more or less on different days of the cycle. As is well known, the Earth's satellite influences the ebb and flow of the tides, and it similarly influences vegetative processes. Plants, being under different levels of gravitational pressure, may grow, take root, and develop better or worse. A crop sown during an unfavorable lunar phase may not only take root poorly, but also fail to grow.
If we talk in more detail about the influence of the lunar cycle on planting, the following patterns can be identified:
- During the new moon, planted plants accumulate nutrients, so gardeners do not recommend planting anything during this period, as the plant enters a period of "rest."
- The most favorable phase of the lunar calendar for planting various terrestrial crops is the new moon, during which all growth processes are activated.
- The full moon is considered a time when gardeners should put off gardening for a while and focus on improving the condition of their plot and equipment – during this period, any interaction with plants will negatively affect their development.
- Favorable days for sowing underground crops (this includes garlic) are the days of the waning moon, when groundwater rises and fills the soil with useful microelements and substances.
- It follows from this that the most favorable days for planting garlic fall during the waning or, at worst, waxing phase of the moon. It's best not to plant during the full moon or new moon.
Favorable days for planting
Before planting garlic, it's recommended to prepare the soil in advance by enriching it with mineral fertilizers and humus. Also, pay attention to the soil temperature during the planting period.
Winter garlic should not be planted until temperatures reach 14°C and continue to rise. Check the weather forecast in advance to avoid potential warming, which could cause the garlic to germinate before winter and be killed by frost.
As for spring planting, it's best to do it when the air temperature is above 5°C. Wait until the snow has completely melted, as the melting snow could drown the fragile seedlings.
In the spring
Favorable days for planting garlic in spring:
- in March it is recommended to choose the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th;
- in April, plan planting for the 4th, 5th, 20th and 21st;
- In May, the most suitable days will be from the 18th to the 20th.
In the fall
Autumn planting can be planned for the following dates:
- in September these will be the 4th, 5th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th;
- suitable days in October are 11, 12 and 13;
- November planting is done in the first half of the month – 8, 11 or 16.
Unfavorable days for planting
Unfavorable dates for planting garlic include those that fall during the full moon and new moon. As mentioned earlier, it's best to avoid planting altogether during this period.
In the spring
Gardening work is postponed until the following calendar dates:
- in March these are 1, 2, 3, 4, 16, 17, 18 and 30;
- Unsuccessful dates for April sowing are 15, 16, 17, 29 and 30;
- In May, unfavorable phases fall on the 14th, 15th, 16th, 28th, 29th and 30th.
In the fall
During the autumn months, it is recommended to suspend gardening work on the following days:
- September – 8, 9, 10, 24, 25, 26;
- October – 8, 9, 10, 23, 24, 25;
- November – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 23, 24.
